Canadian government officials have reacted with skepticism to a magazine report that said al-Qaeda terrorists plotted to blow up a U.S. target in Ottawa. An article in the current issue of The New Yorker asserts that Syrian intelligence officials have helped U.S. law-enforcement agencies thwart many al-Qaeda plots, and even “helped the United States avert a suspected plot against an American target in Ottawa. “No further details were reported in the article, which focused on the growing relationship between U.S. and Syrian intelligence agencies.
