Four more persons, including the Imam of a mosque, were arrested in Andhra Pradesh by a special team of the Gujarat Police for their alleged involvement in the killing of former Gujarat home minister Haren Pandya on March 26. Syed Akbar, the Imam of Idgah masjid in Jagityal town was arrested on Wednesday in Karimnagar district and produced in a court there for transit remand. Akbar, a native of Regunta village in Mallapur mandal, is claimed to have several offences against him. The arrests were made by a 20-member team of the Ahmedabad crime branch (detection), headed by DCP DG Vanzara, which is camping in Andhra Pradesh. Two others were nabbed from Saidabad and one from Mallepally, police said. They have been identified as Mohammad Mansur Siddiqui, Rahim and Abdul Samad. This takes the total number of accused arrested in the case booked under Pota to 37, said joint commissioner of police P P Pandey. The Delhi CBI which is probing the Pandya case has 14 of these accused lodged in the Sabarmati jail in this case under Pota, but is yet to decide whether to take the four accused, who have just been picked up by the crime branch, into their custody for questioning.
