A top bomb-maker in the Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) militant network escaped from a Manila prison, embarrassing the Philippines as visiting Australian Prime Minister John Howard pledged a five-million-dollar security aid package. The jail-break by Fathur Rohman Al-Ghozi, one of the most senior JI operatives ever captured, was untimely for President Gloria Arroyo, coming just hours after Howard promised to help his hosts head off future militant attacks.
