Rebels battling the Liberian government were fighting their way back into the capital Monrovia, filling the cities morgues and hospitals with dead and injured. The latest offensive has killed at least 300 people and left more than 1,000 wounded this week alone, Liberian Health Minister Peter Coleman said. The rebels from the Liberians United for Reconciliation and Democracy are fighting to oust besieged President Charles Taylor as international pressure mounts for him to step down.
