One person was killed yesterday morning in a grenade attack. Four other people, including a Dutch doctor employed by the Medicines Without Borders (MSF) in Mandera, were seriously injured and flown to Nairobi. An armed suspect, who was was arrested while trying to flee to Somalia, was recently sacked from a clinic run by the non governmental organisation. Police and witnesses said the attacker wanted to kill the doctor for allegedly dismissing him unfairly and failing to pay his dues. Councillor Salah Maalim Alio said the assailant and two other people went to the clinic armed with a pistol and a hand grenade. “The attacker wanted to revenge for being dismissed. He tried to shoot the Dutch but the pistol jammed. He then chased the doctor but he took cover in the MSF offices,” he said. Full Story
