A series of bomb blasts across Gujarat on Wednesday, which left four dead and several hurt, have raised the communal temperature in the state in the run-up to the July 1 Jagannath rath yatras in Ahmedabad and other centres. At least two persons were injured in an explosion that took place near Sayyedwadi area in Vatva around 10 pm on Wednesday. Soon after, another blast took place in the neighbouring Maninagar area, the constituency of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi. However, nobody was injured in the second explosion. Tension ran high in Sayyedwadi and neighbouring settlements following the blast, which took place near the Chakudi mosque. Initial investigation reports suggest that the explosion occured at a house. According to eye-witnesses, the blast blew off the concrete roof of the house. Inspection of the blast site revealed that the explosives may have been stored in a secret chamber near the roof.
