A suspected German Islamic militant arrested in Paris earlier this month is a top official in the al-Qaeda network with ties to Osama bin Laden, French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said. Christian Ganczarski, 36, is a “high-ranking al-Qaeda official” and “computer and telecommunications expert” who was “in contact with Osama bin Laden”, Sarkozy told parliamentary deputies. Ganczarski has been placed under investigation by a French anti-terror judge for complicity to commit murder, being an accessory to attempted murder and criminal conspiracy in connection with “terrorist” activities.
