France says suspected German Islamic militant had contact with bin Laden

A suspected German Islamic militant arrested in Paris earlier this month is a top official in the al-Qaeda network with ties to Osama bin Laden, French Interior Minister Nicolas Sarkozy said. Christian Ganczarski, 36, is a “high-ranking al-Qaeda official” and “computer and telecommunications expert” who was “in contact with Osama bin Laden”, Sarkozy told parliamentary deputies. Ganczarski has been placed under investigation by a French anti-terror judge for complicity to commit murder, being an accessory to attempted murder and criminal conspiracy in connection with “terrorist” activities. He was detained last week at Charles de Gaulle airport near Paris on suspicion of belonging to extremist Islamist groups linked to al-Qaeda. Full Story
