A Kuwaiti court Wednesday sentenced to death by hanging a Kuwaiti Islamist convicted of killing a U.S. defense contractor in the Gulf Arab state before the U.S.-led war on Iraq. Sami al-Mutairi, 25, was also sentenced to an additional eight years in jail for illegal possession of weapons and an attempt to escape the country after the January attack, in which another U.S. contractor was wounded. Three more Kuwaitis convicted in the same case were handed prison sentences of up to four years, mainly on weapons-related charges. Another Kuwaiti man was found innocent.
