Last year’s bomb attacks in the Indonesian tourist island of Bali were part of a jihad, or holy war, targeting Americans, a key witness said in court on Wednesday. Ali Imron, when asked why he went to the island ahead of the explosions, replied: “To attack Americans.” “The reality was that the bomb exploded in accordance with what had been hoped for,” he said. Ali Imron was testifying at the trial of his brother Amrozi bin Nurhasyim – more commonly known as Amrozi – who is accused of buying the explosive material needed for the bombs, and owning the van used in last October’s attacks. Ali Imron himself has also been detained in connection with the Bali bombings – which killed 202 people on the resort island, mostly Australian tourists. Seven US citizens also died. Ali Imron also told Wednesday’s court session that another key suspect, Imam Samudra, had held a meeting to discuss the attacks a few months before they took place. Full Story
