Australians were warned Tuesday to take care in Singapore, with intelligence reports still indicating possible terrorist attacks in the island nation. “Australians in Singapore should exercise extreme caution, particularly in commercial and public areas known to be frequented by foreigners,” the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade said in its latest travel advisory Tuesday. “We continue to receive reports that terrorist elements in the region are planning attacks.” Australia issued warnings about possible attacks in Thailand last week and advised travelers to avoid Haiti, where poverty and political tensions continued to add to safety concerns. “Australians in Haiti concerned for their security should consider departure,” the foreign affairs ministry said on its Web site. “The security situation in Haiti remains very unpredictable given the continuing political instability and worsening economic situation.” It said the risk of violent crime, including murder, kidnapping, armed robbery and car-jacking remained high in Haiti, with such crimes often directed at foreigners.
