Amnesty International Condemns Uganda Over Human Rights
Uganda has been named as one of the countries where the “war on terror” and quest for security has been used to justify the erosion of hard won human rights. The report of the international human rights watchdog, Amnesty International (AI) for the year 2002 released worldwide yesterday says security forces have been involved in serious abuse of human rights. Releasing the report at the African Regional Office in Kampala, AI acting head Sheila B. Keetharuth said: “Uganda and Zimbabwe, among other countries, introduced legislation which restricted or threatened punitive [action] against the press. Full Story
