The arrest in Pakistan of a Burmese national suspected of links to al-Qaeda has prompted fresh scrutiny of the military ruled country. Abdul Mutallib, arrested on Thursday night in Karachi, was the first Burmese national to be arrested in Pakistan on suspicion of terrorist links, Pakistani officials said yesterday. Information leading to his arrest was extracted from three al-Qaeda members arrested last month, including Mohammad bin Attash, a Yemeni national, believed to be the mastermind behind the bombing of the USS Cole in Yemen in 2000 which killed 17 US sailors.
