Against the backdrop of a deadly attack on Americans in Saudi Arabia, emergency workers in two U.S. cities combated simulated bomb and biological terrorism on Tuesday as the government mounted the largest security exercise of its kind. In contrast to the bombast marking the $16 million drill’s beginning in Seattle on Monday, where a supposed radioactive “dirty bomb” was set off with pyrotechnics, Chicago’s simulated attack was a silent germ warfare invasion that sent the first of hundreds of “patients” to hospitals.
