Iyad al Bek, 30, a senior Hamas fugitive was killed when three missiles slammed into his car as he drove north east of Gaza city on Thursday. Bek was actively involved in attempts to establish an Al Qaida cell in the Gaza Strip that planned to perpetrate suicide attacks in Israel and abduct IDF soldiers and was also involved in the planning of numerous terror attacks in which 20 Israelis were killed. IDF officials said Bek was in the midst of plotting a string of suicide attacks that were to be perpetrated in Israel. In an interview on Channel Two, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon said he had authorized the hit. “I authorized the attack last night (Wednesday) as he was planning an attack in Israel. As long as the new Palestinian government fails to combat terror, so far it hasn’t taken any steps, Israel will act to prevent attacks. It is my responsibility to protect Israelis and prevent them from being harmed,” he said. Full Story
