THE Malaysian authorities have seized a large number of weapons and detained 22 Filipinos attempting to sail into Malaysia through the waters off Sabah state on Borneo island, a government official said yesterday. The cache included 500 bomb detonators and 216 rounds of pistol and rifle ammunition. Divers are believed to be scouring the seabed for more weapons and ammunition. According to Utusan Malaysia, the Filipinos reportedly dumped some weapons overboard when they were spotted by the military off the coastal town of Sandakan early on Wednesday. The intruders included one woman, a security official told AFP. ‘I think they were trying to escape the current military offensive in the southern Philippines,’ he added. ‘They are now under police custody and being questioned.’ Full Story
