The lawyer for a former terrorism suspect accused federal prosecutors Monday of trying to intimidate his client to prevent him from testifying in the Detroit terrorism trial. Attorney Corbett Edge O’Meara said federal prosecutors are demanding that Omar Shishani submit to a polygraph exam before he testifies on behalf of four terrorism defendants. Otherwise, they’ll rescind a plea agreement in his own criminal case. Shishani says the government’s star witness, Youssef Hmimssa, confided in him during their stay at a federal prison in Milan that he falsely accused the men of being terrorists because they stole the passports he needed to establish a new identity. Shishani said Hmimssa told him the theft ruined his life. “They are attempting to use their leverage in his one case to intimidate him from testifying in the terrorism case,” O’Meara said. Full Story
