Security forces have stepped up the offensive against militants following the recent upsurge in militancy-related incidents that have consumed scores of lives in the last few days across the Kashmir valley. Border Security Force (BSF) Deputy Inspector General K Srinivasan said the anti-militancy operations were already on, but the recent upsurge in terrorist activity has prompted security forces to intensify their operations. Security in Kashmir valley particularly in Srinagar city has been further tightened following the suicide attacks that rocked the city and Bandipora town of Baramulla district for two consecutive days. Close vigil is being kept on movement of people to keep a check on anti-national elements. A thorough check is being conducted on vehicles that are entering and leaving the city. Frisking, searches and cordoning-off operations have also been intensified to put extra pressure on the ultras. “We have devised a comprehensive strategy to deal with the fidayeen attacks carried out by ultras. Our endeavour is to minimise casualties and foil the ultras’ plans to wreak destruction on a larger scale. We have been able to do it and the incident at Radio Kashmir Srinagar is one example where our strategy has paid off,” said Srinivasan. Full Story
