A man who hijacked a Berlin bus Sunday night demanded that Israel withdraw from Palestinian territories, police said Monday. The 27-year-old Lebanese man surrendered after holding eight passengers and the driver for 45 minutes, a police spokesman told Reuters. Nobody was hurt. It was Germany’s third bus hijacking inside three weeks. The man, who had a knife, had freed several passengers, including three children, before he gave up. The bus was heading to Tegel airport in west Berlin when it was hijacked. It sat in a square in the northern district of Reinickendorf and negotiations began with the man. On Friday, a Lebanese man armed with a gas pistol hijacked a bus in Bremen, northwest Germany. He demanded the release of four al Qaeda operatives and said he was expressing support for the Arab men who carried out the attacks of September 11, 2001, in the United States.
