After escaping police custody for several hours, chairman of radical group the Islamic Defenders Front (FPI) Habib Rizieq Shihab handed himself over to police at SalembaPenitentiary in Central Jakarta on Monday evening. Habib Rizieq, accompanied by dozens of FPI members, was then put in an isolated cell near the penitentiary’s mosque,Elshinta reported. The Muslim cleric was “taken” by his supporters when police handed over the suspect to the Jakarta Prosecutor’s Office on Jl. Rasuna Said, South Jakarta earlier on Monday. Habib Rizieq was then taken into a bus that transported the cleric to his house and FPI headquarters on Jl. Petamburan, Central Jakarta. After talking to his lawyers, Rizieq decided to turn himself in. Rizieq was arrested on Sunday at Soekarno-Hatta International Airport when he arrived from Jordan. Full Story
