Terror case testimony surprises Nev. officials. Days after the government’s star witness testified that a Detroit terrorism suspect was planning an attack on Las Vegas, the head of the FBI in Las Vegas issued a statement saying there is no credible information linking the city to any terrorism attack. And now, Las Vegas law enforcement agents express surprise that it took a terrorism trial in Michigan for them to learn about possible attacks against one of the nation’s tourism havens. In the Detroit trial, the government’s star witness, Youssef Hmimssa, cited Las Vegas last week as a target the terrorism suspects were planning to attack. Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Capt. Mike McClary, commander of the Homeland Security Bureau, said he learned of the alleged threat after reading about Hmimssa’s testimony in the local newspaper last week. “The federal authorities in Detroit could have informed other jurisdictions on what was going on and they chose not to for whatever reason.
