Pakistan said on Monday it was in the process of declaring al-Qaeda a terrorist organisation. “We had started the process a few weeks back,” Interior Minister Makhdoom Syed Faisal Saleh Hayat told reporters. He gave no further details. Pakistan was the main backer of Afghanistan’s radical Taliban movement that sheltered Osama Bin Laden’s al Qaeda until the September 11, 2001, attacks on the United States were blamed on the group.
