Osama bin Laden may have fled to Pakistan to escape from US forces hunting him in Afghanistan, the Pakistani President said today. President Pervez Musharraf had previously dismissed reports that the al-Qaeda leader may have slipped over the border into Pakistan. However, in an interview with The Asian Wall Street Journal published today he conceded that it was a “possibility”. The President had maintained for some time that bin Laden could not travel unnoticed over the Afghanistan-Pakistan border because of the size of the security detail that surrounds him.
