Pakistani authorities have arrested a suspected leading al-Qaeda member in the eastern city of Lahore, the Information Minister, Sheikh Rashid Ahmed, has said. The man, named as Yasir al-Jazeeri and said to be a Moroccan national, was picked up in an affluent Lahore neighbourhood as evening fell. Pakistan is describing his detention as another important breakthrough in the hunt for al-Qaeda suspects sheltering on Pakistani territory. Mr Al-Jazeeri’s arrest comes two weeks after the capture of the suspected mastermind behind the 11 September attacks, Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, in the Pakistani city of Rawalpindi.
