Tamil Tiger rebels in Sri Lanka have called for their supporters to be patient, a day after the navy sank one of their vessels. Chief rebel negotiator Anton Balasingham said there was no need to return to war immediately. He said the Tigers were committed to peace because that was what the people wanted. Eleven rebels died in Monday’s clash – the worst ceasefire violation since a truce took effect a year ago. It came a week before the next round of peace talks, due to be held in Japan. Full Story
