The U.S. embassy in Saudi Arabia said Wednesday it believed the murder of a Briton in the kingdom last week was a “terrorist” act and urged American citizens to be take the necessary security precautions. “Based on preliminary results of the ongoing investigation into this tragic event, we believe that it was a terrorist act directed at a Westerner who was randomly selected as a target opportunity,” an embassy advisory said. “We believe the individual currently under arrest for the murder of the British national has associations with known terrorist elements,” it added. A Saudi national has been detained on charges of shooting dead the British defense contractor in the capital Riyadh last Thursday, and security sources said the Yemeni-born man could possibly be linked to Osama bin Laden’s al Qaeda network.
