At least 16 people have been killed in an explosion apparently triggered as police tried to stop an alleged presidential assassination plot. The dead included a six-year-old girl, and up to 30 other people were said to have been injured in the blast in the Colombian city of Neiva. The authorities suggested left-wing rebels had detonated either a bomb or a cache of mortars, as police raided a house in the Villa Magdalena area after a tip-off. They said the police raid was ordered to foil a plot by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) to bring down the plane of President Alvaro Uribe on Saturday. Full Story
