With his re-election campaign behind him and the task of forming a new governing coalition still incomplete, Prime Minister Ariel Sharon has resumed direct contacts with senior Palestinian officials, Israeli and Palestinian aides said today. Mr. Sharon continues to refuse any direct contact with Yasir Arafat, the Palestinian leader, but he met this week with the speaker of the Palestinian legislature, Ahmed Qureia, who is known as Abu Ala. Israeli officials described the contacts, which include lower-level meetings, as an effort to arrange a cease-fire.
