A blast shook a Western-style supermarket in the northern Lebanese city of Tripoli early Tuesday but nobody was injured, security sources said. They said a bomb exploded inside the market, shattering glass and causing material damage. At least one other bomb was found planted inside but was defused, they said. A manager at the Spinneys supermarket confirmed there was an explosion but said he could give no details. The blast, coinciding with the Muslim Eid al-Adha holiday, followed rumors that a well-known Lebanese cleric had issued a fatwa or religious ruling barring Muslims from buying Spinneys products and incorrectly stating the Arab supermarket chain was Western-owned — rumors the cleric swiftly denied.
