HEAVY security surrounded the resumption yesterday of the trial of three alleged IRA men charged with training rebel Marxist guerrillas in terrorist techniques in the Colombian jungle. The prosecution’s star witness, a former member of the Farc, the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia, was surrounded by armed police officers as he made a plea for state protection for himself and his family before giving evidence. Edwín Giovani Rodríguez will testify that he saw James Monaghan, Martin McCauley and Niall Connolly in a Farc-controlled jungle zone training fellow Farc members. Full Story
