Weapons find on rebel boat to be first topic at Sri Lanka peace talks
Peace talks between Sri Lanka’s government and ethnic Tamil rebel were clouded Friday when truce monitors announced the discovery of a weapons cache on a rebel trawler hours before negotiations were to resume. European monitors overseeing a year-old cease-fire said they found a gun and hundreds of rounds of assault-rifle ammunition Thursday on the boat in international waters off the island’s east coast. A spokesman for the monitors, Teitur Torkelsson, told The Associated Press in the Sri Lankan capital Colombo that the find was in breach of the truce accord. Full Story
