War with Iraq is likely to inflame Muslim extremists and greatly raise the threat of terrorist attacks worldwide, German Interior Minister Otto Schily said Wednesday. “If a war takes place, the emotions will intensify,” Schily told a small group of reporters. “It’s a matter of concern. You can’t exclude repercussions.” Schily also said that Germany’s opposition to a U.S.-led war against Iraq should not undermine the “strategic partnership” between the two nations in the war against al-Qaida and other terrorist groups. “It must be possible among friends to have differences of opinion on these questions,” Schily said. “It’s not an expression of anti-Americanism.” Full Story
