Belgian Computer Crime Unit Intensifies Fight Against Hackers
The Computer Crime Unit (CCU) of the federal police is learning how to hack computers. At the Ghent-based Ascure company, four CCU members are currently learning how hackers penetrate corporate and private computer systems without leaving any traces behind. “Professional hackers often try to operate unnoticed,” said CCU Chief Luc Beirens. “Some companies only notice that their computers have been hacked when a competitor markets a product on which they have worked for several years.” The number of investigators focusing on computer crimes has substantially increased over the past few years.
