Coup leader George Speight has hit out at President Ratu Sir Kamisese Mara for declaring a state of emergency. He told a presss conference a few minutes ago that the President should listen to what he says “are the wishes of the indigenous Fijians”. Speight also claims support of the military. This has not been verified. There seems to be a breakdown in communication between Speight and Mara. Former PM Rabuka is trying to be the go-between and has reportedly gone to Government House with Speight's demands. Mara's daughter Adi Koila Mara is among government ministers, including PM Chaudhry, still held hostage in the Parliamentary Complex in Veiuto. Full Story
