Amtrak Train May Have Been Struck By Object Before Crash

“An assistant conductor on an Amtrak train that derailed Tuesday near Philadelphia told investigators she thought she heard the engineer say that an object had struck the locomotive before it crashed, killing eight people, a member of National Transportation Safety Board said Friday.

Robert Sumwalt, a member of the NTSB, said the Federal Bureau of Investigation has been called in to examine damage to a ‘fracture pattern’ on the train’s windshield to see if it may have been caused by damage from an object before the crash.
