“The attack is part of a new scheme used by al-Qaeda members to regain control and make a strong comeback to areas liberated by Sahwa and Iraqi forces after [the organisation] was driven from [these areas],’ said Lt. Col. Jamal Ahmad al-Mashhadani, the Tarmiya deputy police chief. ‘This new sinister scheme represents al-Qaeda’s revenge against Sahwa members who fought against [it], through killing Sahwa wives, children and even other relatives,’ he told Mawtani.”
