In the midst of intelligence suggesting continued North Korean nuclear activity, South Korea has published its plan for economic cooperation and integration with North Korea, both with itself and with the broader Northeast Asian region. South Korea has sought political stability and economic improvements through economic integration since many key components of the plan were developed in 2015. Economists have noted that the integration would have a low impact, likely less than 1% per year, on the Korean economy. The success of any integration, however, is largely linked to the success of ongoing U.S.-led negotiations.
