A new study by Ivanti shows that many firms fail to securely manage network access rights for employees who change jobs within the same organization. 45% of survey respondents said their company failed to strip them of access rights that became unnecessary when they started in a new role. In addition, 13% doubted that the last person who left their company had lost their access rights and less than half (48%) were “somewhat confident” this had happened.
Strikingly, 52% of respondents said that they still had access rights for a former employer, or that they knew someone who did. According to the survey, the three biggest risks of improper access management relating to former staff are sensitive data leaks (38%); cyberattacks exploiting unmanaged accounts (26%); and malicious data detection/theft (24%).
