A new report by iovation that analyzes billions of fraudulent online transactions between January 2016 and June of this year shows that in the first six months of 2019, nearly half (49%) of these transactions were carried out from mobile devices. This is a significant increase compared to last year, when the number was 30%. Iovation researchers state that fraudsters are increasingly “either using mobile devices or making it look like their transactions are coming from mobile when in fact they are using a traditional desktop.”
In North America, 59% of risky online transactions come from mobile devices, which is a higher number than for any other continent. Fraudulent mobile transactions were most common in the telecom industry (75%) in the first half of 2019. Last year, gambling topped the list with 60%.
