A recent survey by Cyren and Osterman Research found that 4 in 10 companies in the US and the UK have experienced the compromise of Office 365 login credentials, with incidents being more common in the UK (54%) than in the US (34%). Furthermore, when taking into account all organizations, credentials were compromised 3.7 times on average.
These results are rather striking considering the fact that 80% of companies use advanced security features such as at least one secure email gateway (SEG) solution to protect their Office 365 accounts. Dealing with a compromised account is very time-consuming. It takes security teams 133 hours on average to detect and fix compromised accounts and to carry out all related tasks such as communication and reporting.
