The United Kingdom is urging Iran to release the British oil tanker that was seized in the Strait of Hormuz on Friday by the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC). A spokesman for British Prime Minister Theresa May said on Monday that “the ship was seized under false and illegal pretences and the Iranians should release it and its crew immediately.”
The escalating situation in the Gulf was being discussed in a Monday meeting of the UK’s COBRA emergency response committee. May chaired the meeting.
