A new study by Kollective shows that 18% of large enterprises are still relying on Windows 7, even though Microsoft support for this operating system will end in January of 2020. While 96% of IT departments have started the process of migrating their organization from Windows 7 to Windows 10, 23% of companies have not completed this yet. These firms, as well as those that haven’t even begun migrating, may fail to replace Windows 7 before support ends.
Kollective CEO Dan Vetras points out that migration is only part of the story, since “IT managers moving to Windows 10 now have to prepare their networks for increasingly frequent ‘as a service’ updates to the OS. They will need to ensure their networks are ready for more testing, more roll outs and more network congestion to keep up to date.”
