As the result of a settlement with the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC), Taiwanese tech giant D-Link will have to implement a comprehensive program to ensure the security of the routers, smart cameras and other Internet-of-things (IoT) devices produced by the firm.
The FTC sued D-Link in 2017, arguing that the company “failed to take reasonable steps to protect their routers and IP cameras from widely known and reasonably foreseeable risks of unauthorized access, including by failing to protect against flaws which the Open Web Application Security Project has ranked among the most critical and widespread web application vulnerabilities since at least 2007.” The critical vulnerabilities in D-Link products put consumers at risk of cyberattacks.
