New research by EfficientIP highlights the growing threat of DNS attacks to organizations. In the past year, 82% of firms suffered a DNS attack and the average business was targeted more than nine times, which represents a 34% increase compared to last year’s report. The attacks are also getting more costly. Overall costs increased by 49% and one out of five companies suffered damages of over $1 million due to a DNS attack.
Furthermore, 63% of firms experienced downtime for in-house applications as a result of DNS attacks, while 45% of organizations had threat actors take over their websites, 27% experienced business downtime, and 26% suffered brand damage.
