A new Irdeto report highlights the massive cyber threat to the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT). The study found that 80% of health, transport and manufacturing firms from the US, China, Germany, Japan and the UK were at the receiving end of an IoT-related cyberattack in the past 12 months. Attacks were highest in the healthcare sector (82%).
Unsurprisingly then, the vast majority of companies (83%) is worried about future attacks on IoT devices. However, less than a third (32%) of firms are ‘very’ concerned about this. A particularly worrisome finding is that only a minority of user organizations (33%) and IoT manufacturers (41%) think that the security of IoT devices can actually be improved to a great extent, which implies that the current state of poor IoT security is not likely to change for the better anytime soon.
