The United Nations is warning that the ongoing conflict between the Libyan National Army (LNA) of renegade military leader Khalifa Haftar and forces loyal to the internationally recognized Libyan government in Tripoli requires the international body to step up its humanitarian response efforts in the country. So far, the fighting around Tripoli has displaced over 32,000 people and the displacement rate continues to accelerate.
Since US President Trump endorsed Haftar last week, fighting has intensified, with both sides ramping up their military efforts. Over the weekend, witnesses reported that Haftar’s forces had lost ground in Tripoli, while the LNA claimed to have actually gained territory.
