Agari is warning that a prominent Business Email Compromise (BEC) campaign has added thousands of executives to its list of targets. Since November of last year the group behind the campaign, which is known as London Blue, has obtained information on almost 8500 financial executives at nearly 7800 different companies across the globe. Most targets are located in the US, but the group is increasingly focussing on targets in Asia as well.
London Blue has also changed it’s tactics by spoofing the email addresses of CEOs instead of just creating fake temporary email accounts like it used to do. This makes it more likely that a victim will believe they are being contacted by their CEO and will comply with requests made by the scammers.
