In late 2018, Iranian state-backed hackers launched a series of cyber attacks on various elements of the UK’s infrastructure. The UK’s National Cyber Security Centre (NCSC) acknowledged the attack this week, describing it as a “cyber incident.”
Coincidentally, the UK government this week also released a report containing statistics on cybersecurity incidents in the country. According to the research, 32% of UK firms detected a cyberattack in the past year, a significant drop from last year, when the number was 43%. However, around half of organizations that experienced an attack, were targeted monthly. Clare Gardiner of the NCSC warns that “the cybersecurity landscape remains complex and continues to evolve, and organizations need to continue to be vigilant.”
