New research by Beazley Breach Response (BBR) Services shows that small businesses are more often at the receiving end of a ransomware attack than larger companies. In 2018, 7 out of ten (71%) ransomware attacks were directed at small firms.
Threat actors demanded an average ransom of $116,324 in bitcoin. Some attackers wanted victim’s to pay up to $8.5 million, but no firm actually did that. The highest ransom amount paid just fell short of $1 million.
