The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) on Thursday night continued to fight ISIS militants around Baghouz, the Islamic State’s last enclave in Syria. Even though the SDF has conquered most of Baghouz, and the defeat of ISIS in Syria has seemed imminent for days, an unknown number of remaining fighters is still refusing to surrender.
Regardless of when ISIS will be officially defeated in Syria, analysts believe the terror group will remain a significant actor in the region.
