The US Navy is ‘under cyber siege’ from Chinese hackers — and hemorrhaging national security secrets
According to a Wall Street Journal report, the US Navy and various industry partners are “under cyber siege” from state-backed hackers, with China posing the biggest threat, while Russia and Iran have also targeted the industry. The report is based on an internal review by the Navy.
The goal of the cyberattacks launched by Chinese hackers and other threat actors is to breach the internal networks of the US Navy as well as of other maritime organizations and various universities in order to steal sensitive information that can help foreign governments build up their navy.
Earlier this month, research by iDefense described a cyber campaign by Chinese hackers aimed at stealing sensitive information on military maritime technology from 27 universities across the globe.
